Certified Financial Planner
Joyce Owen

Joyce is an accomplished business professional and Certified Financial Planner who has been a dedicated member of the Brophy Financial Planning team for nearly 25 years.

Her expertise includes working with clients who are facing major transitions in their lives—planned events such as marriage, divorce, education, career changes and retirement, and unforeseen events such as critical illness, job loss, and the passing of a loved one. Her calm, grounded demeanour makes her very approachable and she is particularly focused on protecting her clients’ savings and wealth. Whether it’s financial, tax or estate planning, or personalized solutions to respond to unexpected circumstances, Joyce has the experience to prevent or correct costly mistakes.

Above and beyond her role as a Certified Financial Planner, Joyce has developed extensive expertise as a Chartered Financial Divorce Specialist and was, in fact, among the first in Canada to become certified by what is now known as the Academy of Financial Divorce Specialists (2002). She offers her clients a clear and reliable assessment of their current financial position and can help them anticipate the long-term financial outcome of potential settlement proposals. Her training in Collaborative Divorce methods enables her to work effectively with divorcing couples, lawyers and therapists. She guides couples through important financial considerations and helps them understand their options so that they can make realistic and workable decisions about their financial future.

Joyce’s designations include Certified Financial Planner (CFP), Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Chartered Financial Divorce Specialist (CFDS). She is a member of Advocis (The Financial Advisors Association of Canada), the Academy of Financial Divorce Specialists, the Financial Divorce Association (United States), and the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals. She also serves as a board member and treasurer of the Ontario Collaborative Law Federation and is a former treasurer of Collaborative Practice Ottawa.
